October 20, 2014 - Tokyo, Japan
In a sudden press conference today in Tokyo, Japanese businessman Yoshinari Ono announced the formation of a new professional wrestling company on the Japanese landscape.
"The state of Japanese professional wrestling, overall, is very good," Ono told the assembled reporters. "My only critique is that it doesn't reach enough of Japan. Promotions are, sensibly, based on major population centers such as Tokyo and Osaka. I want to bring wrestling to the entirety of Japan. For that reason, and after discussions with my business partners, I am calling this venture Yontou Puroresu -- or Four Islands Pro Wrestling."
Ono went on to state that he was strictly handling the money and overarching business matters of the company; the day-to-day wrestling matters would be handled by his business partners.
"I am a lifelong fan of wrestling," Ono stated, "but I know enough to know to stay at arm's length. I did, however, ensure that my partners are men who share my vision. This company will compete in rings all over the four islands of Japan. We will go to Okinawa. We will go to the Ryukyu Islands. We will bring wrestling anywhere the people of Japan demand it. If we have to erect a ring outside, so be it."
Ono revealed that the company planned to operate on a quarterly schedule, spending roughly one-fourth of each year touring each of the home islands of Japan, with occasional special events in other locales. The roster (which Ono announced was under construction) would consist of a variety of talent - but was being left to the discretion of Ono's mysterious partners.
"In order to live up to the name of this company, I chose four of my favorite professional wrestlers as my partners," the businessman continued. "Representing Shikoku is the Encyclopedia of Professional Wrestling, Keisuke Ozawa. Representing Hokkaido is the man once called the Future of Wrestling, Kenjiro Ito. Representing Honshu is the Prince of Akihabara, Toru Nakamura. And finally, from Kyushu, the mysterious masked man, MAXIMUM. You may recognize many of these names - if not, I assure you, you will be introduced to them and their capabilities in due time."
Questions poured from the reporters in response, but Ono waved a hand. "No questions, please. My business partners will be holding their own conference in the very near future to discuss particulars. What I can announce, however, is that Four Islands Pro Wrestling will be holding its first tour in the Tokyo area. This tour will serve as a preview of sorts to what you can expect from us going forward before the start of our proper schedule in January of 2015. It gives me great pleasure to announce that tickets for our first show are officially on sale for November 15th in Korakuen Hall."
With that, the press conference was adjourned.
