ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA (October 28, 2014) -- Further news from the fledgling Four Islands Pro Wrestling promotion came today, not from Japan, but across the Pacific Ocean, revealing that the company's ambitions may well be broader than was first revealed.
In an impromptu press conference held today at the (R)evolution Dojo in California, Jun Nakagawa, FIPW's newly minted Foreign Talent Liaison, stood alongside EXODUS Pro Wrestling Minority Owner & Director Jonathan Collins and the man in charge of (R)evolution Wrestling, Darrin Stearns, to announce an official trans-Pacific partnership.
“It is our goal to create a truly global product,” Nakagawa announced, “and this partnership will allow us to bring some of the best American talent to Japanese fans all over the four islands. Many times, gaijin talent only compete in the bigger Japanese cities, Osaka, Tokyo, and the like. We want to show all Japanese fans the variety of styles EXODUS wrestlers bring to the table, and in turn, they will get to experience what true Japanese touring - and all of Japan itself - is like.”
Nagakawa also discussed the likelihood of being able to send youngsters on learning excursions to both EXODUS and (R)W to gain experience.
'Needless to say," Jun noted, "there are advantages of having an environment we very much trust for our men and women to go to."
When asked why the EXODUS/(R)W combination had been chosen, the Liaison cited EXODUS' growing success in Four Islands' homeland.
“There are very few American promotions capable of selling out Korakuen Hall,” Nagakawa explained. “EXODUS is one of them. It has many names on its roster with significant Japanese experience, the man to the right being just one such example. " Nakagawa pointed to Jonathan Collins, a veteran of numerous tours of the Land of the Rising Sun.
EXODUS is the rare American company with a significant following in Japan. It made its first appearance on Japanese shores in June of 2013, presenting its Desperate Times internet Pay Per View event. One year later, the company returned to Japan for four shows, including another internet Pay Per View event, Ascendancy. EXODUS athletes have also been common fixtures on Kingdom of Japan Pro Wrestling shows in recent years.
For the American outfits, FIPW is an opportunity to get its talent, particularly its rookies, international exposure and seasoning.
“We’ve been looking for excursion opportunities for our talent for some time now,” Collins revealed, taking his turn on the microphone. “Our rosters are chock full of young, hungry talent, many of whom haven’t had the chance to go overseas yet and ply their craft. Wrestling in Japan was one of the greatest experiences of my life, and advanced my career immensely. It’s an opportunity I want to give to as many of my wrestlers as possible.”
Darrin Stearns, not to be outdone, took the microphone next, and made a surprising announcement.
"Nakagawa-san has allowed me to announce to you all that, from the very first show, there will be (R)evolution Wrestling participation on Four Islands Pro Wrestling shows. We will be sending two of our competitors over for FIPW's first tour. Once we have agreed with Nakagawa-san on who they will be, that information will be promptly released."
