With ticket sales for the company's debut described as brisk but starting to tail off, Four Islands Pro Wrestling today released the full card for its debut show in just a few short days.
The show holds several surprises, with unannounced names appearing in two of the evening's more notable bouts. First, however, the evening's main event must be discussed. The four founders of the Four Islands will meet in pitched tag battle, as Keisuke Ozawa & MAXIMUM face off against Toru Nakamura & Kenjiro Ito. All four men will be looking to put their stamp on their promotion in FIPW's very first main event.
The evening's semi-main has a notable gaijin flair, with the Samoan tandem of Samoan Storm teaming up with Masao Horiguchi to take on the odd team of Shinjiro Takahashi, Ichiro Nakazawa, and recently signed gaijin competitor, Olivier Roy, of Canada. While the Takahashi/Nakazawa/Roy tandem seems fearsome on paper, one must wonder if those egos, plus that of Bryan Cade (Roy's manager) can cooperate - the Horiguchi/Samoan Storm trio seems more likely to be cohesive.
In the aptly named "THERE GOES TOKYO!" Cam "Gojira" Davis teams up with deathmatch veteran Masami Inoue to face a pair of freelancers, in the form of Ryuji Kamigawa & Emi Watanabe - known in America by the team name "DESTROY ALL HUMANS!" Kamigawa, in particular, has not competed even on his native soil for the past several months, while Watanabe has been carving a path of destruction in small joshi independents. This is not expected to be pretty, but it will be a brutal, possibly bloody fight.
(R)evolution Wrestling arrives in Japan as well, to take on two FIPW stalwarts in a pair of skirmishes. Anastasia Starling, a young high flyer who grew up in the circus, will make her Japanese debut against fellow high flyer Chiaki Sakai, while the dangerous Oliver Creed will have the task of facing the "Street Fighter" Kenichiro Honda.
Two young heavyweight hopefuls of the Four Islands will also meet, as Tomohiro Ikeda and Yousuke Abe meet in the second bout of the evening.
Last, but certainly not least, is the evening's opening eight person junior heavyweight tag tilt. Practically all ages, styles, and genders are represented as the stern veteran Akira Tamura leads a team of Kiriko Miura, Yujiro Maebara, and Nobuo Iizuka into battle against Keiichi Ito, Shun Akiyama, Yasushi Iguchi, and Rika Morooka.
