Tag Team Match
EXODUS Seikigun (Heather Halliwell & Adrien Cochrane) vs. LEGION: The White Nights (Zack Lifer & Zero McHannon)
Dick Morosi: And it's time for our next match, a tag team bout that showcases four high profile superstars, headlined by the #1 Contender to Fiona Rourke's EXODUS Pro World Championship.
Seth Ericson: And with Adrien Cochrane as her partner, she'll be looking to build momentum as they take on Zack Lifer and Zero McHannon, two men on the losing end of our classic Main Event from two weeks ago.
Soon enough, the commentators are silenced by the beginning of "Alive In the Lights" by Memphis May Fire which plays through the P.A. system, signalling the arrival of Zack Lifer. This time however, he's not alone, as he's flanked by Zero McHannon. The fans give out a tirade of boos at the two villains as they push through the curtains and soak in the negativity. Taking the lead, Zack begins marching down the ramp, and Zero follows right behind him, flagging off and taunting the crowd on either side of him.
From the beginning, I knew I was different.
I embraced it, but you didn't.
Your normal life, 9-5, it's just not for me.
I need to feel alive!
David Zinkus: The following contest is scheduled for one fall. Introducing first, at a combined weight of four hundred and forty-seven pounds... the team of Zack Lifer and Zero McHannon!
Don't you see the minds that have changed?
Do you see the lives that have been saved?
Don't you care to see the difference I've made?
Listen closely, the highways call my name.
Don't you see this is my everything?
The fearsome duo quickly enter the ring and huddle in the nearest corner to talk tactics as they anticipate the arrival of their adversaries for the evening. They don't have to wait long as "Light" by the Agony Family rumbles onto the speakers. Adrien Cochrane pushes through the curtains and stands on the stage as he stars at the masses providing fanfare for he and his partner.
David Zinkus: And their opponents, introducing first from New Orleans, Louisiana this is Adrien Cochrane!
"Light" fades out and a moment of silence takes over in San Diego. A small section of the fans begin chanting "Heather" to the chagrin of the men in the ramp. Another few second pass before "This Life" by Curtis Stigers & the Forest Rangers hits, provoking what could arguably be the loudest cheer of the night thus far. Stepping out in her usual ring gear is the woman behind the music, as the Southern Diva quickly marches down the ramp with Cochrane in tow.
David Zinkus: And from Dallas, Texas... this is HEATHER HALLIWELL!
Finally at the ring, the two fan favorites climb onto the apron. Heather quickly enters the ring and Chris Dawson immediately calls for the first two participants who will start the match. As they come forward and "Angel Eyes" fades out, he sounds for the bell.
Dick Morosi: Been looking forward to his all night. Here we go Seth!
Zack Lifer and Heather Halliwell approach one another, briefly meeting in the center of the ring in a tie up. Lifer quickly bats the former International Champion’s arms away, then grabs the other one and immediately whips her into the far ropes. Halliwell ducks and leans into the trio of chords that make up the boundary of the squared-circle, before rebounding and running back toward her adversary. Lifer quickly drops to a prone position, forcing Heather to leap over him and bounce off the opposite set of ropes. On her return, Lifer springs up to a vertical base and proceeds to hook his arm under that of the Texan’s, pulling her forward and coercing her into a somersault as he drops to the mat. Both superstars quickly scramble to their feet, with Zack quickly advancing forward in an effort to keep the advantage, yet his efforts are thwarted as Halliwell retaliates with an Arm Drag of her own. Once again, the two competitors climb back to their feet, Heather stares down her budding rival with a smile as Lifer shakes off the effects of the move that was just bestowed upon him.
Dick Morosi: Great exchange of chain-wrestling from those two. Regardless of how you feel about either competitor, they’re two of the best in the business right now.
Seth Ericson: And for Lifer, getting a win over the former International Champion in any contest would bode well for him in the long run.
Zack extends his leg in a forward kick, but his foot is captured by the cagey Texan, as Double H spins to the canvas, sending Lifer twirling awkwardly to the mat courtesy of a Dragon Screw leg whip. The recipient of the maneuver quickly scrambles to his feet, overcoming the damage done to his leg in time to deliver a boot straight to Halliwell’s cranium. As she crumbles to the canvas, Zack immediately collapses on top of her in a lateral press for the first pinfall of the match.
“ONE!”
Heather quickly rolls a shoulder over, her tenacity and persistence somewhat dismaying the New Jersean as he pulls her up.
Dick Morosi: It’s going to take more than that to put down the World Title contender.
Lifer quickly applies a Hammerlock, violently bending Heather’s arm behind her back to keep her subdued and under his control. He eventually drags her to his corner, where Zero patiently waits and tags in. Utilizing their numbers game, Lifer slings Heather across the ring, where she rebounds into a sickening High Knee from the legal man in the match, six foot-four, two hundred and thirty-five pound Floridian, Zero McHannon.
Seth Ericson: They’re doing a number on Halliwell right now, and that’s great strategy. Keep her isolated, and work her over.
Dick Morosi: I’ll have to agree. Although she's one the toughest superstars I’ve ever seen, nobody can take this much punishment! She’ll need to make the tag soon!
McHannon wastes no time in keeping the advantage, as he pulls Heather to a vertical base whilst trapping her head in a front facelock. Afterward, he snaps back to the canvas, maliciously driving her face first into the mat with a devastating DDT. He follows up by hooking her legs, as the Dawson slides into position to make the count.
“ONE!”
“TWO!”
The Texan manages to throw a shoulder up, both flustering and angering Zero who grunts to display his angry disposition. McHannon climbs back to a vertical base, grappling Halliwell by the head and pulling her to a stand as well before driving a knee into her solar plexus. With her arm captured in his grasp he attempts an Irish Whip, but the Texan spins under the arm, and sharply turns back to him with a raised leg that she drives into his knee. She follows up with a stiff kick to the midsection that doubles him over, and then focuses her eyes on his arm that hangs in front of her. The former International Champion quickly seizes his aforementioned limb, and presses the straightened elbow joint across her knee, leaving McHannon immediately yelping in pain and reaching for the ropes due to the pain of the Armbar. Before Zero can grasp the ring cables Halliwell drags him to a stand and hooks her free arm around the Floridian’s head, before sweeping his leg and falling backward to bring him down with a Russian Leg Sweep. Unable to capitalize, Heather rolls onto her stomach, meanwhile Zero stares up at the ceiling lights as the crowd cheers them on. With neither superstar showing immediate signs of life, the Chris Dawson begins a ten count.
Dick Morosi: Halliwell turns the tables, and this match is anyone’s game. That right there was a true testament to her desire and endurance Seth.
Seth Ericson: Yeah but don’t start singing her praises just yet Dick. As you eluded to, this match still hangs very much in the balance!
“ONE!”
“TWO!”
“THREE!’
“FOUR!”
“FIVE!”
Finally, and almost at the same time, the two of them finally muster enough strength to rise to their feet. With their eyes on their allies, Heather and McHannon stumble into their respective corners, tagging in their partners nearly simultaneously, and prompting them to enter the ring and immediately charge at one another. Lifer quickly swings his arm forward to attempt a Clothesline, but it is ducked and dodged by Cochrane who runs into the far ropes and bounces off. Upon rebounding, he rushes at the turning Lifer, and quickly leaps into the air and wraps his legs around his head before swinging his body to the canvas to perform the Headscissors Takedown. Zack is coerced forward and flipped onto his spine, but the momentum immediately carries him to his feet where he is met with a picture perfect Dropkick from the “Dropkick King” that sends him back down to the canvas. Adrien quickly crawls on top of Lifer to perform a cover, but Zero rushes into the ring and dives onto the Louisianan with his fists interlocked to disrupt the pin. Weary but determined Heather steps back through the ropes to even the odds before they can be stacked against her partner. She makes a bee-line toward McHannon, and quickly blindsides him with a Dropkick that sends him rolling under the bottom rope.
Dick Morosi: All hell is breaking loose Seth! What a match we’re witnessing.
As McHannon begins to pull himself up with the aide of the ropes, Halliwell charges at him once more, only to be low bridged and sent tumbling unceremoniously out of the ring. Zero immediately crawls back to his feet, hoping to use the 2-1 advantage to finish Adrien off. However his aspirations don’t come to fruition, thanks in part to Cochrane himself who comes in with a Flying Forearm Smash to send the Floridian off the apron and crashing to the mat below. The “Dropkick King” sees the groggy state of Zack Lifer as he spins around, and he immediately knows exactly what time it is. With haste he drags Lifer from his knee to a vertical base, and reaches back to perform the Adrien Cutter, only to have it countered as Lifer shoves him forward toward the ropes. Exhibiting his agility and wherewithal, Cochrane leaps over the ropes and swings himself to the apron. With Lifer approaching, he ducks down and shoots his shoulder between the ropes; the quick thinking, sadistic brawler immediately replies with a sickening knee strike to the side of Adrien’s exposed head, the effects of which leave the Cruiserweight suspended precariously across the ropes.
Seth Ericson: That was as sick a knee strike as I’ve ever seen one! And Lifer’s going in for the kill!
Indeed, having already applied a side headlock, Lifer somersaults forward, dragging Cochrane off the ropes, exploiting the momentum to twist and drag his adversary off the cables before viciously driving the back of his head into the canvas.
Dick Morosi: FORCED SUICIDE! He could have broken Cochrane’s neck!
Seth Ericson: If that wasn't already the plan… and this one is over!
“ONE!”
“TWO!”
“THREE!’
WINNERS: Zack Lifer & Zero McHannon
Dick Morosi: The White Nights score a huge upset against the number one contender and The Dropkick King!
Seth Ericson: Have you seen the way they work these days? Lifer and McHannon are a well oiled machine!
Dick Morosi: You have to think Daisuke will pick them for War Games, but who knows? For now, let's go backstage. Tom Matheny is standing by with Sylar Drake!
The camera pans to the backstage area, where Sylar Drake is standing by with EXODUS Pro interviewer Tom Matheny. He is dressed in his ring attire.
Tom Matheny: Ladies and gentlemen, I am here with Sylar Drake, who is fresh off of a pinfall victory against the San Diego Bay Champion “The Evangelist” Jerry Matthews and gets a chance tonight at a rematch as he goes up against Deacon Jeremiah.
Before Matheny can continue, he is interrupted by Deacon Jeremiah himself. The good Reverend’s spiritual liaison is wearing a black suit and can’t help but attempt to stare a hole through his opponent. He walks up and snatches the mic away from Matheny.
Deacon Jeremiah: So, are we done parading around under masks now, Mr. Drake? Quite ironic, especially given how blind you are to how that treacherous snake Jonathan Collins has left you.
Sylar Drake returns the accusatory look he is being given.
Sylar Drake: Rest assured, holy man, tonight, you get yours. You’ll be getting a full tutorial on the kind of honor I and the rest of the EXODUS Seikigun represents. And I will get another shot at Jerry Matthews.
Deacon Jeremiah: I wouldn’t be so sure about that, Sylar. Tonight, your eyes will be opened, like it or not.
All of a sudden, Sylar is thrown forward by a fierce impact. The camera pans to the left to find the Reverend Jerry Matthews standing over a downed Sylar Drake, holding the San Diego title belt over his head. Sylar can be seen to be favoring his neck. Matthews lays a hard stomp to the back of Drake. He then steps over him, and raises the title belt high in the air.
Jerry Matthews: Tonight, Sylar, just like Selena Alexander, you will be saved from yourself. You will finally be able to clear your head of all the selfish thoughts of personal glory you’ve been having. And, you’ll be able to replace them with all of the love you’ll have for Jesus Christ, your only Lord and Savior. The Word of the Lord, Thanks Be to God.
Matthews levels Drake with another kick to the back, and he and Jeremiah walk off screen. Tom Matheny can be seen calling for medical personnel as Sylar writhes on the ground in pain.
