The cameras open on the inside of the (R)Evolution Dojo, site of all (R)Evolution Wrestling shows, though this one is noticeably different. For one thing, instead of the standard RevPro theme, "Courtesy Call" by Thousand Foot Krutch is playing, which is apparently the theme of the #BasedEmpire, as the camera focuses on one of the RevPro banners, which now features the name of the empire spray painted on it to signify who is running this unauthorized show. The crowd is far more modest than any RevPro show has had, being comprised mainly of the SectionB kids and some other students that heard about the show through Twitter. "Courtesy Call" ends and is replaced by "failbait" by deadmau5 & Cypress Hill which, perhaps unsurprisingly, turns out to be the theme of Tom Higashikata, CEO of the #BasedEmpire and rampant egomaniac. The tiny
Tom Higashikata: Yooooooo, WHASSUP BRUHS? WELCOME TA THA REVPRO DEY DIDN'T WANT YA TA SEE! THAT DEY TRIED TA KILL!
The crowd boos heavily, Tom nodding along.
Tom Higashikata: Yeah! Them fuckin' Nazis thought they could kill dis? End all our dreams for fuckin' punishment? Well ya know what we say ta dat shit? HELL NAH!
The crowd shouts this along with him.
Tom Higashikata: We standin' here tonight in dis Dojo, OUR Dojo, we refuse ta let them stomp on us! Tonight, because THEY didn' want it, WE are doin' our own RevPro show! DIS IS DA BASED EMPIRE RIOT! THIS IS (R)EVOLUTION AN' DIS IS THA FUCKIN' FUTURE!
The crowd goes wild, cheering on.
Tom Higashikata: An' I couldn' think of a single betta way ta kick off dis show den one way...cause as ya know, fourteen days ago, somethin' changed. Some sadass white dude fell, an' one BRIGHT FUCKIN' STAR REPLACED IT. So believe me when I say dat what I'm about ta announce makes me so fuckin' happy. INTRODUCIN'....DA NEW (R)EVOLUTION CHAMPION...YO' CHAMPION AN' MINE....DA MUTHAFUCKIN' NORTH STAR! SYDNEY! CHRISTENSEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!
The crowd starts to get amped up as Tom lowers the microphone. A few seconds pass before the opening strains of “The Future Is Now” by Starset begins to play. The crowd gathered leaps to their feet and erupt as Sydney makes her way out. Dressed in a pair of black heels, faded blue skinny jeans, and a fitted white t shirt underneath a black leather blazer, she walks out with her newly won title slung over her right shoulder. The smile on her face tells the story of what she is feeling right now as she approaches the ring. Hopping up into the apron, she leans her back up against the ropes and raises her belt high above her head, much to the delight of the Section B crew. She lowers the belt and turns to climb through the bottom and middle ropes. Once inside of the ring, she walks over to Tom and the two sort of bump fists as he hands her the microphone. She stands in the middle of the ring and waits a minute for things to settle down before she attempts to speak.
Sydney Christensen: Wow. You guys, this moment right here is pretty surreal. This moment right here, with me standing before you as the new (R )Evolution champion is the culmination of everything. It is the end result of the countless hours spent in the Dojo, getting stretched, worked, beat up and tested in every way possible. From Day One, each and every one of the students who passed through the doors to the Dojo set out to make themselves into the future of this business. I’d say we have made good on the promises made that first day. I’m even happier to say, and indulge me in the vanity for a minute, that we have a champion that people can be PROUD of and WANT to cheer.
As if on cue, the crowd breaks out into a loud chorus of cheers. Several of the Section B members even start a “YOU DESERVE IT!” chant. Sydney smiles and blushes slightly as she waves a hand, as if urging them to calm down so she can speak.
Sydney Christensen: I’m not taking anything away from Brando. He was a great opponent the times we faced each other. It’s just that I was better. I know the road to this championship wasn’t easy and that the hard work is just beginning. I am more than willing to make good on the promise I made to the trainers that first day the Dojo opened its doors. I am not going ti disappoint anyone.
She pauses a second to adjust the title over her shoulder.
Sydney Christensen: I want to tell you all a little story. This is the story about a woman who set out a couple of years ago in hopes of bettering herself in the wrestling industry. She came to the United States and was signed to the development facility of one of the biggest companies in all of wrestling, the GDW. Upon signing, she was seen as one of the brightest newcomers to have come along in years. Slowly but surely, she began to turn heads with how she was in the ring, winning the Women’s championship, the Tag Team championship and finally, the World Heavyweight championship. In her mind, she had achieved all that she could in the development territory, so it was time to take the next step and join the main roster. You don’t know how many times she would sit by the phone and wait the day that the all-important phone call would come. Days, weeks and even months would go by and she would hear nothing. Meanwhile she would have to sit back and watch as countless others would get the call before her and feign happiness as they got to live the dream that seemed to elude her. The only one she was genuinely happy for was her best friend, who went on to have a pretty great career that was seemingly cut short because of a car accident.
Time and time again others would get the call until the woman would get more than a little frustrated. Would her call ever come? She had spent two years waiting for a call that would never come. Two years to be told that they weren’t ready for the big time, that they were needed down in the development camp. Do you know what it did to this woman> It turned a normally upbeat and positive person into one who had become angry. Angry at the management for not giving her the shot that she felt was hers and angry at the fans who seemed to take delight in her misfortune. As fate would have it, the GDW would close its doors before she would even find out if the call would come. But there would be no resting for long, because one day she DID receive a phone call. However, it wasn’t the one she had hoped to get for the past two years. This was better.
Sydney pauses as she tries to compose herself, the subject matter obviously still a sore subject for the Canadian.
Sydney Christensen: That phone call changed everything for me. The day I heard from Angela Jameson about this place and a chance to be trained by some of the most legendary figures in the business, I jumped at the chance. The rest as they say is history. So to Dan Herrera, Brianna Singer and ESPECIALLY Rick Young, thank you. Thank you for passing on me time and time again. Thank you for NOT calling me to tell me that I was finally going to be called up to the main GDW roster. Because of your ineptitude, I wouldn’t have moved out here to San Diego to pursue my passion. Because of your incredible need to keep me held back, I would never have become the wrestle that stands before you right now. If you had listened to what I thought was reason at the time and signed me to a GDW contract, I wouldn’t be standing here as the new (R )Evolution champion. Because of people such as Jonathan Collins, I have been given the chance to showcase just what kind of talent you COULD have had on the main roster, but never signed.
The fans interrupt her as they break out into loud cheers once again. She takes the time to acknowledge them before waiting for them to settle down so she can continue speaking.
Sydney Christensen: Being the champion means I am at the top of the pecking order around here. I have a target on my back the size of Sacramento. I welcome the challenges that await me. I’ve been given a second chance so to speak and I will make good on everything I say and do. You want to know why? Because out of all the stars in the sky, the North Star shines the brightest. It is the North Star that guides people home. RevPro is my home. As long as I am champion, this place will be protected against those who wish to do harm. Lucky for everyone, I plan on remaining champion for a long, LONG time.
With that, she drops the microphone hard on the mat as “The Future Is Now” plays again. Sydney raises the championship high above her head once more as she walks around the ring, allowing the fans to show their appreciation. She looks out at them and nods a thank you before dropping down and rolling out of the ring. She walks around the ring, shaking the hands of those who have their arms outstretched as she walks back up the aisle. Stopping just before the curtain, she turns and salutes the crowd before heading away.
The camera cuts over to the broadcast booth, where we see Tom settling into one of the chairs, putting the headset onto his head.
Tom Higashikata: Ay yo sup bruhs! So dis is some special shit! Since dis is a #BasedEmpire show, ya gonna get a full array of special guests commentatin' dis hot ass action wit' ya's truly! An' who do I got up first? Well, see, a good business man knows ya gotta get people hooked from da start somehow, an' what betta way than a beautiful woman? An' ain' nobody betta in dat regard den da QUEEN of dis #BasedEmpire, Cailey Carter!
As he announces her name, the attractive blonde begins to come down the ramp, though she bypasses the commentary booth and instead enters the ring.
Tom Higashikata: Oh, right, I forgot ta mention. She's doin' our ring announcin' too, so ya can keep on seein' her face. Ya welcome.
Cailey Carter: The following match is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Bel Air, California...
An electric guitar begins to play, a kick ass, sexy tune plays signalling the epic "Rebel Yell" by Billy Idol. Out bursts Carlton Winslow, a big smile on his face as he walks down the entrance ramp, he throws up a peace sign to the crowd and turns it into a Tiger Woods-style fist pump. Carlton yells "LET'S GO BAY-BAAAAY!!!" and struts and dances to the song....He jogs down the ramp, and to the left side, smacking the hands of the fans, holding a pointed finger in the air.
Last night a little dancer came dancin' to my door
Last night a little angel came pumping on the floor
She said "Come on baby I got a license for love..."
He slides onto the apron, leaps over the ropes, and waits for his cue...
"And if it expires...PRAY HELP FROM ABOVE"
BECAUSE...!
Then climbs onto the turnbuckle.
CROWD: IN THE MID-NIGHT HOUR SHE CRIED, "MORE, MORE, MORE!"
WITH A REBEL YELL SHE CRIED, "MORE, MORE, MORE!"
IN THE MID-NIGHT HOUR BABE, "MORE, MORE, MORE!"
WITH A REBEL YELL, "MORE, MORE, MORE!"
Carlton does another Tiger Woods fist pump with an energetic expression. He leaps down with ease and prepares for his match.
Cailey Carter: And his opponent!
The gymnasium lights somewhat dim, causing the crowd to get restless in anticipation. Finally, "Braveheart" by Lupe Fiasco hits the speakers, starting as a slow electronic noise until the drums and bass kick in. The audience turns their attention to the entryway where the curtains dividing the ringside and the backstage area are suddenly thrown back as the superstar behind the music emerges.
May the Lord have mercy on my soul
Forgive me for my fetishes, my purchases, my clothes
Allow me to catch my rhythm so the nervousness just goes
That's why I sound so certain in my verses and my flows
The verbiage just gets merciless, the wordsmithness just rolls.
Black Jones scans over the audience while he stands draped in a hoodie vest with "Half Man- Half Amazing" written on the back before taking a deep breath; his eyes continue to survey the crowd until he suddenly begins to bounce around in place, making dodging movements as if he were fighting an imaginary opponent, a smile lining across his face.
Cailey Carter: On his way to the ring, from West Philadelphia, PA, weighing in at two hundred and ten pounds, he is one half of Rush Hour and one half of your RevPro Tag Team champions... BLACK! JONESSSSSS!
I've tuned into my pertinence, my purposes, my goals
The feeling when you realize you've been working for your foes
And the curtains have just opened and they worthlessness exposed
You remember where you've came from, where the purses was stole
There was nothing in the oven and just work up on the stove
And you blossomed from the bottom, yeah, you worked with it and rose
From nothing to a dozen and a garden now there grows. Tell em!
Jones makes his way down the aisle with a steady march. His eyes remain focused and in front of him as he reaches ringside, "Braveheart" continues to blare through the speakers. BJ knees up onto the apron, quickly pulling on the top ring cable before using the elasticity of the ropes to propell himself off the apron and into the air. He somersaults into the ring, immediately exploiting the momentum into a roll before springing to a stand to excite the crowd with his athleticism and exuberance.
Courage under fire, gave me a brave heart (That's me)
Courage under fire, gave me a brave heart
(Yessir) Brave heart
(Yeah I got that) Brave heart
(You know) Brave heart!
Jones removes his vest, throwing it over the ropes before backing into the nearest corner. With his tune coming to an end, he strokes his fingers on his chin before cracking his knuckles and preparing for war.
We see Cailey exit the ring and move to the broadcast table, trading fistbumps with Tom before taking a seat next to him.
Tom Higashikata: Yo dat was some tight ass introducin', gurl, maybe somebody oughta think about bouncin' dat Zinkus nothin' an' replacin' him wit' ya.
Cailey Carter: Aw, thank you Tom. I'm just glad to be here for this #BasedEmpire shit!
Tom Higashikata: Hell yeah! An' this match gonna be some good shit! We got mah boy, da recently MAIN ROSTER APPEARIN' Black Jones!
Cailey Carter: He's an amazing wrestler, and his opponent is no slouch either. Carlton is a very talented high flyer.
Tom Higashikata: Hell yeah dis is gon' be sum good shit.
The bell rings and Carlton steps forward, extending his hand to Black. Black looks at him for a moment before, maybe surprisingly, takes his hand and shakes it to an appreciate cheer from the crowd. And then the two turn it on. Black whips Carlton into the ropes, only for Carlton to leap clear over him as he attempts to clothesline him, hitting the ropes again and trying to crossbody Black, only for Black to hit the mat and roll out of the way, hitting the rope himself and coming off with a dropkick that Carlton dodges, hitting the ropes and going for a shoulder tackle that Black siderolls out the way of. The two come up and the crowd is going wild. The two showmen grin and come back at one another and it seems more like a fight out of DBZ, the two seeming to teleport around the ring with how fast they are going at one another hard. Black eats a boot to the jaw and Carlton takes a suplex from the top rope. Black nails a standing moonsault only to hit Carlton's knees, but Carlton's planned lionsault only hits mat. Black tries for the Poetic Justice, only to hit the turnbuckle instead of Carlton. Carlton tries to nail the Darkness Falls, only to get caugt with a dropkick as he came off the top rope! It was this that allowed Black to nail the Black Magic for the well-deserved win. The crowd gets on their feet to applaud the two as Black helps Carlton to his feet and brofists him, showing respect to Winslow for his amazing effort.
Cailey Carter: Wow! That was an amazing match!
Tom Higashikata: Fuck yeah it was! Black showin' why everybody needa be keepin' they eyes on him! He is the real thing! Real deal! The next big thang! BLACK JONES FOR PRESIDENT YO!
Cailey Carter: Your enthusiasm is infectious, Tom.
Tom Higashikata: That's what my last girlfriend tol' me. But then she tripped me outta window.
Cailey Carter: ....
Tom Higashikata: I kinda miss her crazy ass. Ah well. Cailey, it was great havin' ya out here ta commentate wit'.
Cailey Carter: It was an experience.
They fistbump again and Cailey stands up and walks over to ringside to continue her ring announcing.
