The Omuta Citizen Gymnasium was the site of FIPW's Kyushu debut, a massive show that hoped to bridge the company's experimental 2014 with a full-time 2015. If the show is any indication, FIPW looks to have a bright future as it joins the ranks of full-time, touring Japanese companie.
The evening opened with a six man tag team bout meant to showcase the company's junior heavyweight division. With the submission stylings of Shun Akiyama, Nobuo Iizuka, and Yujiro Maebara on display alongside Yasushi Iguchi's "ninja style," Jun Nakagawa's power gaijin brawling, and Keiichi Ito's well-roundedness, the bout showed off a variety of styles in interaction with one another in a spirited sprint. Jun Nakagawa ultimately stopped the show, using his patented Iron Claw Slam to put Shun Akiyama away.
With Emi Watanabe in (R)W for a year's excursion, her farewell excursion match might have come a bit late, but was long on action as she and DESTROY ALL HUMANS! partner Ryuji Kamigawa tore into one another in their usual brief, violent style. The brawl could barely be contained by ringside, and the official wanted to call for the bell several times, only to be threatened by each competitor if he did so. Kamigawa was finally forced to resort to the offense that he had stopped using upon becoming a member of Gods & Monsters, putting down Watanabe with the Kabukicho Lullaby for the three count.
A battle billed as a collision between power and technique followed, as Shinjiro Takahashi and the Deathmatch Devil, Masami Inoue took on the speedy MAXIMUM and innovative Masao Horiguchi. The technique duo isolated Inoue early in the bout, but Inoue was able to take advantage of MAXIMUM by attempting to unlace his mask! With the masked man out of sorts, she was able to tag in Takahashi, who rampaged over MAXIMUM forcing the tag out. Horiguchi and Takahashi exchanged offensive manuevers, with Masao able to frustrate Shinjiro with a variety of unique moves, alternating attack from head to legs to arms, applying submission manuevers seemingly haphazardly rather than focusing on one body part. In the end, though, it was MAXIMUM missing his patented MAXIMUM Velocity that doomed his team, as Inoue yanked Horiguchi off the apron, leaving Takahashi free to pick MAXIMUM's carcass up and slap on his Canadian backbreaker for the submission win.
X, as it turned out, was current EXODUS Director of Quality Control Seymour Almasy, competing in his first match in several months. Naoki Arishima, however, was not bowed by the reputation of the man standing across the ring from him. Almasy showed much of the speed and savvy that made him a household name at various points of his career, rolling up the much larger Arishima on multiple occasions, and even executing an impressive shooting star press dive to the floor on the much larger athlete. Arishima, though, was able to weather Almasy's storm, and whenever he got his hands on the Final Fantasy, the results were brutal. Big suplexes dropped Almasy on his head several times, and after one more big headdrop in the Jade True Fusion, Arishima picked Almasy back up, and ended his night swiftly with the Lightning Blade.
The fifth match of the evening saw Samoan Storm take on the joshi duo of Rika Morooka & Chiaki Sakai. The bout, considered by many in attendance to be a sleeper contender for match of the night, saw two very well balanced duos go to war. Ofisa met with considerable success, able to use his size advantage to suplex the smaller opposition nearly at will. Alofa, on the other hand, had problems with the wily Morooka, the technician able to counter out of many of his armbar attempts, frustrating him with her technical prowess and applying some submission moves of her own. Sakai was able to use her aerial artistry to keep Alofa frustrated as well, but the Samoan Submission Machine caught her on the top rope, coming off with a flying cross armbar to a big roar from the crowd. Morooka was able to break it up, but Samoan Storm was in control. Even Morooka coming back in couldn't stem the tide as Ofisa was tagged back in to deal with the crafty Morooka. Rika, though, managed to trip up the suplex machine, rolling him up tight with an Oklahoma roll to score a surprising victory!
Ichiro Nakazawa came to Fukuoka with the intention of proving his superiority to the "joke" of Kenichiro Honda, and while he succeeded, the result was not without controversy. Nakazawa did show his impressive strength and use of leverage in being able to suplex the much larger and more bottom heavy Honda, including several big bridging suplexes. Honda, though, showed off his deceptive agility, cracking Ichiro with several big overhead chops, and even the diving headbutt for a close two count. Just as Honda looked to finish things with the Hundred Hand Slap, though, Ichiro managed to distract the referee and slip in a low blow, before executing the Ichiban no Suplex for the (slightly tainted) victory.
The REVOLUTION arrived in Four Islands Pro Wrestling, with many fans gasping in awe at the sheer size and scope of Shozo Arino's chosen partner, GRENDEL. Akira Tamura and Kiriko Miura stood ready to repel the invasion, with Tamura insisting he start the battle, even when Arino sent GRENDEL to start the contest. The wily veteran was able to keep GRENDEL at bay at first by chopping down the big tree and working a variety of submission holds, but his attempt to humiliate GRENDEL with a crab hold led to the big man breaking free and annihilating Tamura with his power based offense, including a sidewalk slam and vicious chokeslam.
The REVOLUTION duo isolated Akira Tamura in the corner, keeping him far away from Kiriko Miura at all times. The usually emotionless Kiriko showed her frustration on the apron, until finally Tamura managed to spring away from GRENDEL, and made the tag into Miura! Kiriko entered the ring - and promptly nailed the Eternal Star with the Poison Flower to a chorus of boos from the crowd! Miura rolled Tamura out to the apron, and tagged him in, leaving Akira easy pray for the REVOLUTION's monster, who elevated Tamura before promptly bouncing him off the canvas with the Extinction Event! GRENDEL placed a single massive boot on the chest of Tamura, pinning him with one foot before an angry, astonished Omuta Citizen Gymnasium. After the match, an overjoyed Shozo Arino raised the hands of both GRENDEL and Kiriko Miura, before leaving with them to the back as medical attention came to the ring to tend to the Eternal Star.
After that down note, it fell to ten men and women to rescue the mood of the evening. In the match dubbed TO THE FUTURE, all ten competitors showed why the future was bright indeed. Rookie Yousuke Abe nearly scored the shock of several lifetimes, wrapping Kintaro Higashikata in a small package hold three minutes into the bout and almost keeping the legend's shoulders to the mat for a count of three. Alofa, in his second battle of the evening, also acquitted himself well, armbarring and legbarring his opposition. For all of his boasting, Toru Nakamura was unable to best Higashikata, even after executing the Bad End on the Golden Hero. After over thirty minutes of action, the contest broke down into chaos, with the young lions pairing off, as did Higashikata and Nakamura, Alofa and Roy, and Ozawa and Ito. This left (R)W competitors Anastasia Starling and Oliver Creed as the legal competitors, and both did their level best to end things. Creed managed to butterfly Starling's arms, hitting the Purgatory Lost! He went for the cover, and with all competitors stymied, Anastasia Starling was the only one who could save herself - and she did, kicking out at two! Creed was so astonished that he didn't see Keisuke Ozawa make his way back into the ring, planting Oliver with the Tiger Driver! Ozawa nodded to Anastasia, who promptly hit the ropes, rebounding into a running shooting star senton to the astonishment of the crowd in attendance! The three count was academic, giving the victory to Higashikata's team, and giving the rising Anastasia Starling her first direct win in FIPW.
Team Higashikata was given the task of closing the show. Alofa promised big things for Samoan Storm in 2015, and joked that he hoped he was getting paid twice for working twice - and was promptly assured by Keisuke Ozawa that he would in fact be generously compensated for his time and effort. Ozawa himself took the microphone next, and thanked the crowd in attendance, both as a wrestler and as a Founder of the company. He credited the fans with the effort that all had given tonight, and promised more of the same when FIPW returned. Tomohiro Ikeda was given the microphone for the first time in his young career, and he too thanked the crowds for supporting him in his first main event, and promised to do everything he could to ensure that it would be the first of many in a long and illustrious career. Match winner Anastasia Starling was given the microphone next, and she gave thanks to everyone, especially her girlfriend, Asteria Sorensten, with whom she was very much looking forward to sleeping with when she got back from Japan. Upon realizing what she said, she quickly handed the microphone over to Kintaro Higashikata, and buried her face in her hands in the corner, her cheeks a bright shade of red. Higashikata took the opportunity to praise everyone involved in the match, including his opposition, and expressed his happiness that he had found his way to Four Islands Pro Wrestling. He vowed to lead the charge of youth in 2015 and beyond, and looked forward to heated battles with everyone in the company.
On that note, the biggest FIPW show to date ended, with much more to come as the company's first official tour would be announced in the coming days.
