Hey guys. It's been a crazy week. I'm going to start off with a couple of things before I get into the meat of this post and get the important things out of the way.
I know a lot of people are frustrated. I know that I feel like there's been a mega breakdown of communication between handlers and staff, staff and staff, and handlers and handlers. I know that a lot of things are going around, and I don't know the degree of accuracy that what's going around happens to be. All I know is that for the past week, a lot of things have affected EXODUS in a strenuous way, hence the reason we've pushed deadline to tomorrow afternoon.
I said it last week and I stand by the fact that the incident that caused a lot of this had no one right. I know I was not right, and I know I don't believe anything about the situation was right. What's done is done and it can't just be taken back. The root of it comes down to a couple of things which I'm hoping we can begin to make right going forward.
- I don't have a lot of help with match writing for shows. Allen and Sean, two of our most consistent match writers have retired/gone MIA. JB and Pete have been consistently helpful, but I don't want to dump the workload on them. It isn't fair to them, so I'm trying to get more help where that's possible. You guys are great with turning in segments, and I hope that remains the case. We just need to make sure that we get the matches also tended to.
- I need people to communicate with me on any situation. If I don't know a situation exists, I can't fix them. If you can't talk to me about it, there are staff members you can talk to, and they can bring these things to my attention.
WHICH BRINGS ME TO MY NEXT POINT.
Hi, meet your new (and official) staff.
Jonathan - Fed head. Handles all the day to day stuff, can't reference things correctly.
Matt/Chuck - 1A, helps with judging/match writing/creative things.
Allison - 1B, helps with judging and creative, working on the match writing.
Nick - Head of Revo, helps with creative, #1 super guy, ala Hong Kong Phooey.
Kevin - Judging/Creative.
Paige, Pete & JB have extended roles with helping with taken lists and match writing and everything, unless they tell me otherwise.
This brings me to the next thing.
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, THE SUPERNATURAL ELEMENTS THAT WOULD AFFECT THE OVERALL STORY ARE TERMINATED. To be honest, they haven't really affected the on-air elements of the show, but I hope that it will allow people to feel more comfortable and move forward with ideas without fear.
That said, I NEED people to talk to my staff and myself about ideas and concerns. This helps two things.
- If you tell us what's wrong, we can fix the matter and hopefully do our best to ease your worries.
- It allows you to have more creative freedom. I'm never married to an idea in my head. Yes, a lot of my ideas are joking and dumb, but it's often said in jest. If you guys don't like an idea, please feel free to tell me so, and we can move onto another idea that will help you out and help out the fed. As long as we have your feedback and your input, we can make things better for you.
I said it once and I'll say it a million times: this is not just my fed, but it is YOUR fed. I want everyone to work together to contribute to a positive experience. Anything you guys need, feel free to talk to us on staff and we'll happily work with you. That said, deadline is in 14 hours, let's kick some ass.
