Character Info
Real Name: Laurel Saiko Yunokawa
Ring Name: Saikosoma
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 148lbs
Hometown: Of no fixed abode
Alignment: 0. Noble face trapped in a monster heel's body.
Entrance Music: "vordhosbn" by Aphex Twin
Entrance Description:
The lights slowly die away as the opening to Aphex Twin's "vordhosbn" slinks across the speakers. As the frenetic, fractured beat and the urgent screech of the synthesisers fill the darkness, a shape starts moving through the crowd. What little light remains in the auditorium catches flashes of bright colours within the distorted silhouette as it steadily makes its way down the stands and over the guardrail to the ring. Over the course of five or six seconds, the house lights flicker back on in sections to reveal - perched at the top of a ringpost like a gargoyle - the feathered and face-painted form of Saikosoma. She leans back, spreading her arms out, then leaps into the centre of the ring. She drops to a kneeling position and spreads her arms again, looking around the audience, then slithers backwards on her knees and belly to her corner.
Physical Appearance: Broad-shouldered, athletic build although not particularly well toned. Indeterminate ethnicity. Long black hair with a fringe. Cold grey eyes. A couple of large, fairly prominent scars by her right eye. Several tattoos, primarily on her back and legs.
(Picture base: Lovefoxxx)
Ring Attire: Varies from show to show, but the default is one of the following:
* A neck-to-ankle bodysuit in a Rorschach print of black plus either orange or red plus one other colour, with matching facepaint. Pinprick contact lenses. Barefoot. Feathered stole. Beads and feathers braided into hair.
* The same, but with tights and a sports bra or bikini top instead, and the paint extending all the way down her arms and torso.
Gimmick/Personality: Following a crippling identity crisis prompted by events in various promotions, Laurel deconstructed her own psyche. She has stopped suppressing her psychopathy and has grown more intractable and unpredictable than ever, and in the course of her self-analysis is on a quest to find the situation dangerous enough to present a real threat to her. When Beowulf invited her into his crusade, she readily accepted in the name of protecting her art form from those she sees as debasing it. The fun-loving flower child is dormant, leaving nothing but a reckless, animalistic and utterly fearless whirlwind of violence.
Strengths:
1) Saikosoma is almost inhumanly flexible and acrobatic, capable of mind-bending feats of agility.
2) Creativity. Her mind is always working and she's excellent at coming up with new things off the top of her head. This means she's great with counters, especially the big moves that turn the momentum of a match back in her favour. It also serves her well in a hardcore environment, and she has a reputation for being able to employ weapons in unorthodox ways.
3) Ludicrously high pain threshold. If she has an upper limit on the amount of punishment she's willing to take, it's never been reached yet. Getting busted open doesn't faze her for even a second; if anything, it just makes her feel more alive.
4) Thanks to her broad frame, she is surprisingly strong for her size and can lift cruiser men without too much trouble.
5) Never backs down. Saikosoma has never encountered a challenge too intimidating for her to admit defeat. In a battle of nerve or will, she's virtually impenetrable.
Weaknesses:
1) Stamina. She wrestles an aggressive, fast-paced style but doesn't really have the conditioning for it. She's got a chronic bronchial problem, and is a smoker. Her lungs give out quicker than most people's. She'll try to push herself through it but will be slowed.
2) Matriarchal mindset. Laurel considers wrestling as a whole her property, and can be protective of it and those who respect it to the point of rage.
3) Deathseeker. Saikosoma doesn't just want to cause violence; she wants to receive it. She wants to be pushed beyond her limit and has very little in the way of self-preservation instincts.
4) In her frenzy, she doesn't fight with much of a game plan.
5) Never backs down. Laurel's determination isn't really "heart"; she literally, pathologically lacks a functioning fear response. The flip side of never backing down is that she rushes headlong into bad situations, and never admits when she's in the wrong. She is more than ready to engage an enemy in an arms race of barbarism and depravity. In fact she's quite often the one initiating it.
Biography: You know the history of Laurel Anne Hardy, and if you don't, there are plenty of places to find it. Saikosoma is a new stage persona for her - the person Laurel's enemies accuse her of being: a sociopathic, self-destructive dynamo of nihilism and ultraviolence. How much of it is real, and how much of it is a performance? Laurel's still figuring that one out herself.
Wrestling Style: Lucharesu, taking in a combination of stiff strikes, British chain wrestling, high flying and plenty of good old fashioned head-dropping. She is an extremely creative deathmatch specialist, capable of putting together unorthodox moves on the fly and employing weapons in unique ways. She's fast paced and aggressive, tending to focus on opponents' heads and necks, but lacks a defensive game save for the odd big counter. She is left-handed, and fights with a southpaw stance.
Finishers
1) "Gom Jabbar" - Primary finisher. Jab to the oesophagus with the index and forefingers pressed together. Usually and stronger left handed, but can be done with the right as well if need be.
2) "The Doors Of Perception" - Submission finisher. With the opponent lying face down, Saikosoma straddles their shoulderblades planting her feet either side of their head. Then she wraps their arms around both her shins and their own face in a straightjacket, and leans back.
3) "Sunfall" - Emergency finisher / setup for The Doors of Perception. Diving top-rope knee strike to the back of the head.
Signatures
1) Spear
2) "Winter Garden Photograph" - Saikosoma gets the opponent in a front butterfly, then she raises her knee to rest it against their throat, then drops to her ass.
3) "Punctum" - Any knee strike to the side of the head, regardless of setup.
4) "Echo Chamber" - From a similar clutch to Rings of Saturn I, Saikosoma repeatedly drives her upper knee into the back of the opponent's head, in turn driving their face into the mat.
5) "Battlegrounds Uppercut" - European uppercut, pushing the opponent's head down with her other hand.
6) "Flower Plower Mk.I" - Straightjacket somersault neckbreaker.
7) "The Melancholy of Sunday Afternoon" - Fisherman suplex lift flipped into powerbomb lungblower.
