I feel like this is going to be a mostly Stevie and me circlejerk, but I figured Clint will probably show up in here sometimes. Either way, if you're not watching New Japan Pro Wrestling right now, you're probably missing the best product in the world right now, bar none.
So I'm going to start this thread properly, and no it's not Okada.
SWAGSUKE.
That is all.

Why not make this a General Wrestling Discussion thread for people to come in and shit on JERRRRRRRN CENARRRRRRR in between New Japan shows, or talk about whatever TNA stuff they're watching?
And I'm picking MiSu to win the New Japan Cup.

BECAUSE DAMMIT, I WANT NEW JAPAN TALK.
But sure, I can retitle it.
And I can't argue. I told Steve an idea I had about MiSu and Okada.

I love John Cena. He's just the best. Can't get enough of that 1st grade humor and 3rd rate wrestling ability.

Not to shit on everyone's parade, but with the exception of Steve Austin, Cena's the best overall main event draw the WWE's had in the modern era.
If you want to take that as an indictment of the WWE, you can, but still.

If you want to take that as an indictment of the WWE, you can, but still. Considering my tastes, I think you guys will be surprised to say I'm pretty much okay with Cena. I mean, he's not the best worker, but the dude DOES have a five-star match from Meltzer. On top of that, I genuinely respect the dude for the work he puts in. But seriously, THIS THREAD NEEDS MORE TENKOJI. OR WEIRD NWO TYPHOON VIDEOS. STEVIE, BRING 'EM ON!

Make no mistake, I'm actually not shitting on Cena. I think that, at times, he's an immensely capable mic worker who can do great promos...but more often than not does bad jokes. As a worker, he's I'd say rather underrated.
A big handicap of a lot of the WWE's "top" guys right now is that they have certain guys they don't work well with, and others that they have a unique chemistry with. Big Show & Del Rio are kind of just "ok" together, Del Rio & Sheamus have no chemistry, but Sheamus & Show have surprisingly good matches. Cena's like that. Some guys he works with are decent-good workers, but they have no chemistry, so their matches are just there.
I think because of things like that, his matches with Punk are pushed aside as "Well CM Punk's just great, he's carrying Cena to these matches!" But I think it's equal work being put in by both guys, creating matches that are average at worst, and at their best are MOTYCs, and usually MOTYs in America.
So no, I'm not shitting on Cena. I shit on the way he's presented, and if I was 27 in 1989, I'd probably feel the same way about Hogan. As for the draw part of it...it's hard for him not to be the top draw. He's the only one who's been consistently there since 2005; everyone else has dealt with injuries, wellness violations, getting old, or simply leaving the promotion.

Ah, man. It's no longer cool to unceremoniously bury John Cena? Next you're gonna tell me irrationally hating Jeff Hardy is passe.
In all seriousness, I actually don't mind Cena. He sucks as an in-ring wrestler. I don't care who you are, but that's just the facts. Well over a decade into his "peak," he still throws a hip toss like somebody in their first year of wrestling school. THAT SAID, his work ethic, charisma, and connection with their key demographic cannot be denied, or spoken of lightly. I've been a fan of his for the most part, and have been around wrestling long enough to understand and tolerate the Superhuman wrestlers that are pushed from time to time. I was a gigantic Hulkamaniac when I was a kid. In the early-to-mid 90's, it was really lame to be caught liking Hogan, so I have found myself sort of sympathizing with Cena's fans, and Cena himself by extension.
I'm half-way into the WWE product right now; mostly due to being traditionally succeptable to catching Wrestlemania Fever (WM typically falls near my birthday, so I usually celebrate it on WM with all my friends.) I think for all of the "They need to go back to TV-14!" talk, the WWE has more than shown that they have the ability to present a GREAT product in the confines of "TV-PG." When they stick to simple, effective story telling with compelling characters (which they have), they're more than capable of putting on a good wrestling show. Though I don't think anybody would argue with me if I said they DESPERATELY needed to go back to two-hours. I like wrestling, and will probably watch RAW until the day I die just simply out of force of habit, but that extra hour is gonna fucking contribute to that inevitable death.
And to make Jonathan happy, I give you the following,
HULK HOGAN! IS ICHIBAN! AXE BOOMBAH!
