It had been a crazy couple of weeks. Fiona Rourke had found herself in Japan, leaving Madison Collins alone to her own devices. This...was not the best news in the world for Fiona's spunky 10-year old roommate. Having gotten into Fiona's old ring gear and lucha masks, Madison was playing and using the iPhone Fiona left behind because of connection reasons to take photos. Of course, when it sounded like someone had logged onto Skype, Madison went to the iPad her father bought her for her birthday this year, not even realizing who she'd be picking up to see. When it was Fiona, her eyes widened and she had realized one thing - the jig was up.
"Um...hi Miss Fiona?" the tiny girl said.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I was looking for Madison Collins, not my exact replica shrunk to miniature size," Fiona said, laughing softly as she found herself staring at Madison wearing her ring gear and masks. Seeing the sight was comical but it also tugged at the petite brunette's heartstrings as it meant Madison was missing Fiona just as much as Fiona was missing her.
"You silly little munchkin. You're totally busted," she laughed again, relaxing back into the plane seat she was sitting in as she smiled at the young girl through the camera on her MacBook. Japan had been a complete whirlwind and such an amazing experience, leaving her breathless and even more in love with the country and the culture. "Hey, what's daddy doing? Tell him Ms. Fiona misses him terribly and wants to look at his handsome face as she flies back home," Fiona grinned at Madison cheekily.
"Daddy's really busy, actually. I got Uncle Brian and Uncle Tom here, 'cause Daddy went to Philadelphia to scout talent!" Madison said with a hint of pride. "He says he's gonna make EXODUS Pro better than that place when we all lived in Tennessee," Madison replied with a smile as she looked at the computer monitor before taking her mask off. "Daddy says the main event is gonna be awesome though! I bet you can do it, I remember Mr. Gunner!"
Fiona stifled a frown from the little impressionable girl at her comment as she didn't want any questions but she couldn't help but feel bummed at not being able to see her boyfriend. Things would be drastically different now thanks to EXODUS Pro, what with her being the talent and Jon basically being her boss. She didn't want to be looked down at either by other wrestlers for being in a relationship with him and seemingly getting favored over them. But, it also sucked that he was so much busier these days. "Oh good! I'm glad you've Uncle Tom and Uncle Brian there. Make sure to tell them Fiona comes home later today though, okay? I expect the house clean and spotless and a cake baked for my arrival." She giggled, tucking her hair back behind her ear. "I'm gonna do my best to be awesome, Munchkin. I promise, okay? Mr. Gunner remembers me too so we're gonna kick some serious butt and put on a good show. Gotta make Daddy proud of us, don't we?"
"Yes!" Madison exclaimed, before thinking for a minute and grinning. "YES! YES! YES!" she called out, grinning and clapping before shaking her head. "No, that's not right at all," Madison pondered, shaking her head. She was not a fan of that one. "Daddy says he misses you though, 'cause he talks about you. He said something about you having a new costume to show him, but he says I can't see it because it's not for EXODUS," she went on. "Was it for Japan? Is it something awesome I can see?!" Madison asked. "Daddy said you got it for when you and him are in training, so I figured you had to take it to Japan too..."
Fiona's eyes widened to saucers as she watched Madison rattle on about a costume. Which as soon what she realized what she was talking about made Fiona choke and cough, shaking her head. "Oh...oh no, that costume is not for EXODUS and it wasn't for Japan either. And no, you can't see it Munchkin. It's.....private," she blushed, wondering how in the world she would explain something that was meant to be just for Jon's eyes to his 9-year-old daughter. "I did bring you stuff to look at from Japan though! Just like I told you I would." Nice recover Fiona, she thought to herself, shaking away the embarrassment.
"I GOT POCKY?!" Madison exclaimed, putting her hand up into the air like she was pumping her fist. Instantly, the young girl started humming the victory song from most Final Fantasy games, marching around a bit before she heard another sound from her laptop. "Oh, hey Miss Fiona! Daddy just signed on, he's here!" she said with a grin, pointing at what would amount to be her buddy list on her own iPad. "If you gotta go, that's fiiiiiiiine!"
"YOU GOT POCKY! And some stuffed animals too, even a Pikachu one!" Fiona laughed, smiling brightly as she watched Madison complete her victory dance and her excitement before she realized that Jon had signed on her buddy list as well. "Okay Munchkin, I'm gonna talk to Daddy for a while since I haven't seen him lately. You be good for Uncle Tom and Brian, okay? I'll be back tonight and we'll have girl's night in. How's that sound?"
"It sounds awesome," Madison said, grinning as Fiona waved and clicked off to find Jonathan. There he was in a gray Arsenal t-shirt and some jeans, sitting at his laptop when the screen for her popped up, him clicking over.
"Hey there," he grinned, giving her a tiny wave as he flipped through files of his own.
Fiona said her goodbyes to Madison with a couple of kisses blown before she opened up a new window to find Jon staring at her. Instantly, her eyes narrowed into deadly squints as she glared at him and her mouth twisted into an evil smirk. "You.....I have a bone to pick with you, Mr. Bossman."
"Is this about the costume thing? Because that was totally unintentional. She found your knee high socks and thought you were making new kickpads. Not my fault you can't hide your stuff, kiddo!" he said with a laugh, leaning back in his chair. "Besides, we're training. You've got a main event for EXODUS coming up and I have to watch and see if you qualify for the Winter Road. I can't be out there cheering you on, bud. You know that," he said.
Fiona sighed softly, shaking her head as her fingers raked through the length of her brown hair. "Yeah, I know you can't. It sucks balls but I know you can't be out there like you were," she frowned slightly, teeth chewing at the corner of her lower lip while her eyes stared into his before she gave him a small smile. "I miss you though. Munchkin said you missed me too," she chuckled.
"I do, and you know that. I love you and I'm really glad this trip was good, but," he started, sighing as he rubbed his face. "I can't be there. Look, they're gonna talk and we're gonna have to deal with it, but you're gonna need to be strong. This is the experience you wanted, Fiona. You wanted to stand on your own two feet, and you're gonna. You're gonna live and die by what you do starting next weekend against Magnus and Omar," he noted, rubbing his face again.
Fiona's heart swelled as those three little words left his lips; she'd never tire of hearing them. "I love you too, but I know that things are going to be completely different now. I don't want anyone looking down at me because I'm dating the boss or that you're playing favorites. I want to work hard to be at the top, where I know I belong and deserve. I'm just....I'm scared though, Jon." It was a big admission for her, something that had begun to weigh heavily on her mind and her spirit the more she stayed in Japan and knew her debut in EXODUS was on the horizon. "What happens if I can't do it?"
"That's you defeating yourself right there. I can't physically be in every match, and I can't hold your hand when the monsters get scarier than you want them to be," he said with a sigh. "Fear's not a bad thing though; I don't know where people get that. If you're afraid, you're holding back. That's what plagued you in Tennessee, and it'll plague you here if you don't get it together," he told her, knowing he was being harsh in a way. However, he had to tell the truth.
Fiona sat back as Jon spoke, her eyes slightly wide as this was the first time he had ever spoken somewhat harshly with her. She knew he was doing it to get her into the right headspace and to psych her up for EXODUS but was still strange. Her head looked down into her lap, sighing as her hair fell in front of her, shielding her face from his view on the other side of the computer screen.
"Listen to me," he said with a sigh, hoping she understood why he was saying these things. Being harsh with her was sometimes necessary, if nothing short of unpleasant. "Listen to me. Very rarely do opportunities like this come to you, Fiona. Promotions don't open every day, nor does a chance to make history by main eventing first shows. You want to be great; it's what's taken you across the globe. Now prove it, Pixie. You made a believer out of me, but there's a whole other world waiting to see what you're made of. Show 'em you're unbreakable."
Fiona's head remained down as Jon continued to speak, head nodding at random things that she agreed with. "I know you're right. I know that but I can't help it. I've always had Mandy beside me in the ring and then I was in Tennessee alone until we made a team and then with Jimmy. I've never really truly been alone out there before and it's just...it's scary and a lot of pressure. But I know what I need to do. I don't want to disappoint you."
"You won't disappoint me if you're out there giving it your all. Maybe they didn't see your potential, but I do. And I'm not going to let you waste it by living in fear. Now get back to California and be great, okay?" he said with a smile, giving her a grin and a wave. "Sounds pretty fair to me, at least."
Fiona chuckled softly, finally lifting her head to look at him through the camera. Fingers tucked her long hair behind her ears once again, giving him a smile as she nodded her head then grinned and waved. "Yeah, sounds pretty fair to me too. I'll be back as soon as this plane lands so you get yourself back to California too and be the bossman, okay?" Smirking then, she blew him a kiss playfully. "Besides, we have training to catch up on," she winked.
"It is what it is, kiddo," he told her with a smile. "And bossman? I think I liked it more when you were calling me captain," he chuckled as he smiled. He had a future here. There was a future in EXODUS and a future in their relationship. Ultimately, he had to work on both these things to keep them successful, and he knew it when he saw her. "I do care about you, y'know. And I want what's best for you. I just know that to give you the best, I'm going to have to ultimately step away. You'll never realize your full potential with me always holding your hand."
"Yeah, Captain does have a better ring to it. Captain it stays," Fiona chuckled, smiling at him before she curled a leg up to her chest on the chair, chin resting on her knee as she looked at him. “I know you do and I know that we need to focus on stepping away while working. You need to focus on the business and I need to focus on being the best," she smirked at him.
"You're gonna need to, Pixie. I didn't throw you a softball in your main event. Gunner's one of the best in the business and this Omar Wise guy's the real deal. I scouted him personally," he told her, nodding as he looked on at her. "You've got two big hurdles."
"I can do it though. I know I can. If I can put up with the types of people we came across in Nashville, then I know I can handle this and come out winning." The confidence she felt flowing inside of her was enormous and she owed it all to the man who had been a hero to her and a mentor but had now become the love of her life. "I'll show them exactly who the Strong Style Pixie really is."
He heard her and didn't say a word at first. He simply grinned, giving her a small nod. "Sounds like you're ready to launch, Pixie. See you in a few hours," he reminded her, giving her one last nod.
Nodding her head, Fiona smiled at him and blew him another kiss. "See you in a few hours, Captain. Love you," she told him, letting him repeat it back before she signed off and closed the lid of her MacBook. Her brain was working a mile a minute as she turned to stare out the window beside her as the plane flew through the sky. Minutes passed and she knew what she needed to do. She grabbed her flipcam from beside her in her backpack and carefully stood up, walking down the aisle of the plane before she went into the bathroom at the back of the plane. It was time to let out the Pixie for real and show the world who she really was. Locked away inside the bathroom of the plane, Fiona turned on the camera and held it up in the tight space so it showed her face, grinned at the camera lens, and began to speak.
“Oh, hello. I didn’t see you there. I'd love to give you some talk about the bully backing down when someone pushes back. That's sort of the easy thing to do in a case like this, but now I'm not so sure. Omar Wise is the biggest, baddest dude on the block…so he says. I can't even make fun of that, you know? He's a machine, maybe even one of those killing machines straight from the future. A terminator? Possible, very possible. But the truth is that Omar Wise is a beast. And he's probably rightfully considered the favorite to win this match."
Zooming in a little closer on her face, Fiona smirks.
"But I don't deal in favorites. And I've never been one to go along with the odds."
"See, Omar is many things, but Omar doesn't have the one thing I do. Omar is guided by hate, and I'm guided by heart. When I get in that ring, I have something so much stronger than brute force and muscle. I have the heart of a lion and the courage to move mountains, and even if people think that it doesn't mean much in the business of professional wrestling? You'd be surprised what it means. Heart is the strongest thing there is. Heart moves mountains even when they can't be moved."
She turns her body, leaning her hips back against the small sink area as she held the camera out further so that she was in full view clearly.
"So, Omar. I can call you Omar, right? You think I'm a lamb to the slaughter? You think I'm going to wilt because I find myself out for just myself? You have absolutely no idea who I am, do you? I'm a lion, Omar. I don't know the meaning of the word quit, and you're going to find out how mistaken you and Donovan have been about me when I step into that ring for the right to compete in The Winter Road. You might want this, and that's all fair, but I need this. I need this more than I've ever needed anything before. This, Omar, is the most important match of my career. No, of my life, really. When I get into that ring, I have to prove to the world that I can do this alone and without Jonathan Collins or Jimmy Riley holding my hand or supporting me. They've been great friends and great partners, but this is my time to be great. You, Omar, won't stop me from meeting my goals."
"See, people think I'm a little off my rocker. People think I'm, for lack of a better term, crazy. They think that I've got to be a little nutty to get into the ring to begin with, and I'm even crazier for facing off against the biggest and baddest guy in the men's locker room. Whatever you want to call it, just know that I will work harder than you expect. Know that I will give so much more than people expect of me. Know that you will literally have to kill me in order to beat me, but even then, that might not even stop me."
"The funny thing though is that you don't have to be convinced, Omar. You don't have to believe me. When the time is right, I'll be ready to make you a believer. All I need is that ring and time."
Smirking once again into the camera lens, Fiona’s head tilted as a hard look of power and determination filled her eyes.
"And even with time, all I'll need is three seconds. Deuces, bitch."
Fade.
"Um...hi Miss Fiona?" the tiny girl said.
