Anaheim, CA.
Wrestling back-to-back shows was completely new to Nate, and something that he wasn't entirely sure he was up to. A dozen different thoughts ran through his brain about the situation, even though Kameron had done his best to assure him that things would be fine and that it was completely normal in the professional wrestling industry.
What if he got hurt against Marks and couldn't face Fiona the next day?
What if he wasn't in good enough shape to give his all against Fiona because Marks had taken it out of him?
What if he completely screwed up his match against Marks and it killed his confidence for the biggest match of his career to date?
On the flip side, if things went well both nights, it would definitely do well to give him some momentum. A victory against Chris Marks would boost Nate's confidence to the max ahead of his match against Fiona Collins.
Once again, Kameron was supervising and relaxing as Nate was put through his paces at the gym. Nate had thought that maybe since he had two matches coming up on consecutive days, that Kameron would give him a little bit of a break from their training schedule. When he'd found himself in the gym of the hotel they were staying in in Anaheim, however, he realized that it had been nothing but wishful thinking.
"Cardio is important," Kameron said simply as he stood beside the treadmill, leaning his forearm on the machine's frame. "Especially if you don't wanna get gassed halfway through your match with Mrs. Collins."
"Yeah... well... " Nate sighed, pressing the stop button on the piece of apparatus and then hunching over with his hands on his knees once it shut down. "I'm gassed now."
Kameron laughed and looked at his watch, then nodded his head. "Not bad. Look at it this way," he said as he tossed the towel that had been hanging over his shoulder to the sweaty wrestler. "Tomorrow you have the chance to prove that you're a star in the making, and somebody that people should be paying attention to. On Monday, you have a chance to solidify that by beating the biggest star in the company right now."
Nate nodded his head and then rubbed the towel over his face. "Yeah, I guess so. I didn't really think of it that way. Good luck trying to get me up to head to San Francisco though when I'm aching from wresting the previous night."
"Oh, don't worry. We won't have any problems there," Kameron said with a laugh. "I'll get you to San Fran if I have to drag you onto the plane myself."
"You'd actually do that, wouldn't you?"
"Yep. Don't worry about it, though. This match against Marks is gonna be a walk in the park. Just think of it as a training match. It's a good warm-up to get you into the spirit again and to prepare yourself for Fiona on EXPRO."
"So basically just treat him like a sparring partner and not go so hard?"
Kameron shrugged. "In a way, but don't hold back. In fact, no. Not a sparring partner. That would imply that you'd be taking it a little too easy. You wanna go out there and hit him fast and hard; get the match over with as soon as possible so it doesn't take too much out of you. You're gonna need all your energy and stamina for Monday night."
From the locker room of the gym, Kameron Chase stands facing the camera in front of him. Nate is the man operating it, due to not being able to get a camera crew out there in time, and he signals to his mentor with a thumbs up as he starts the camera rolling.
"Chris Marks, you're the lucky one who has been chosen to be made an example of. You were fortunate enough to be put up against Nate Soto during the one week where he really, REALLY is out to make an impression. The one week where he's gonna bring all he's got, even for a little warm-up match. I don't think anybody in the locker room envies you in the slightest. I'd say you definitely drew the short straw."
"Allow me to demonstrate my ignorance for a second. I don't know anything about you, and I don't care to, either. Why? Because I don't need to know. You're not important. You don't matter. You're like the support band at a gig that nobody cares about. Nobody wants to see you. You're not the one putting asses in seats. The real star of this show – the headlining act – is Nate Soto, and everybody knows that, whether they care to admit it or not."
"It's unfortunate for you that you're the lamb being led to the slaughter in this scenario, but I'm sure you'll get another chance to try and prove your worth to the powers that be in EXODUS. You were booked for a special showcase match, after all. There's gotta be something to you at least. You'll get there eventually, if Nate's in a good mood. He's been pretty reckless and violent lately, if you didn't get that from the last EXPRO show. He's playing cameraman right now, or maybe I would have let him speak for himself. Tomorrow night, though.... We're gonna let his actions do the talking."
