I figured I'd get this off my chest since if I don't, it's going to drive me insane and I need to get some of this stress and various other EXODUS things related off my brain.
- First off, a lot of people have asked me about how I book. I like to describe my booking style as a well blended smoothie of Mike Quackenbush, Paul Heyman, and a dose of Gabe Sapolsky circa 2004. There's Heyman in the elements that I like to see where everyone is at and try to add them to the story to emphasize their strengths and talents. There's elements of Quack when it comes to telling a fantastic story that also stretches beyond the imagination of professional wrestling. EXODUS stories stretch far beyond the ring and emphasize fantastic comic book elements. The Gabe Sapolsky part comes from the fact that I go to 2004 RoH and he had the luxury of a roster where everyone was a threat and could main event on any given night. I book to make sure almost everyone is treated as such, because everyone can win on any given night. There's no hierarchy in EXODUS because champions have smashed that. We've had World Champions barely survive, and we had the prestige of our mid-card titles raise to the point where they're interchangeable. My biggest example I can give is the booking of Black Jones. Black debuted on the opening match of a show, went to the midcard, was in the main event of the last show before Dead In Hollywood, and is back in the mid card again after the opening match of DIH. The fact is, everyone is treated like they can beat anyone on any given night in my booking terms, so let's get that out of the way here. If you have more question on my booking style, please let me know.
- Also, others have brought up how pinfalls happen in EXODUS. I figured this was a standard thing in EXODUS based on things in the rest of e-fedding. I didn't know people didn't do it other ways. Highest score beats lowest score. In tag matches, it's the average of two teams and I'll have the lowest scoring person from the losing team take the fall to the highest scoring person, same thing to happen in multi-man matches. The reality is that because I try to book with some form of equality, I book with an eye on long term storytelling, and I book with what the hot stories are at the moment. The mid-card titles have been booked with a sense of equality now because of the work people have put in to make the SDB Title mean something. It's just a matter of how I can make all the pieces fit together when people are working together to make the overall story of EXODUS work.
- That being said, guys...I'm stressed. I've had a lot of stuff going on personally and based on a lot of things and a lack of help when it comes to judging and match writing...I legitimately am tired and have openly questioned to others why I run this fed. It's an incredibly thankless job that seems to leave me feeling nothing short of stressed and angry about things, and it's taking a toll on me when I'm trying to take care of things with my girlfriend, my job, and my future. I'm thinking of moving and I'm thinking of possibly finding a new job, but I have no idea what my future over the next 12 months holds besides running this place. Most people know that I have Mondays off and work myself from when I wake up until when I go to bed to put together a show. Shows don't go up until they're complete, and I don't go to bed until they're complete. My job is an endless one and it's to the point where I have cost myself personal time to do things for EXODUS instead of going to indy shows or visiting friends here in town.
So what do I do in this case? I could take a break, but if I do, nobody's going to get Monday's show up. If I don't, I'll go insane. Thankfully, I've had staff willing to pick up the slack (just not the whole kit & caboodle), but I need to take some time to breathe. Right now, all I can ask is that if you're having some issues, pick your battle. If you need feedback, contact other judges that you noticed have judged you recently. If you need Revo stuff tended to, Nick is available. Please, for the love of all that's good, PLEASE make my life easier before I run around the local mall (where my job is), naked and flinging shit at the people at T-Mobile.
That being said, I have some creative ideas I'd like to implement in the next 12 months. I'd love to hear what people have to say about it, so here they go.
- The Trios tournament is on. The Honor Cup is on. So I'm going to pitch this idea to you I've just had and I want to know how you feel. I've thinking that the Trios tournament could be this year's Honor Cup, and the winning trio would square off in a match at the PPV between BWHOH and AE3 to become #1 Contender. Teams would either be drawn randomly or there would at least be some sense of storyline connecting certain teams. Let me know how any of this sounds to you.
- Our PPV schedule now goes as follows.
Repetition of Hatred (Korakuen Hall, Japan)
The War Isn't Over Yet (RIMAC Arena)
BWHOH 2: Of Beauty and Rage (Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas)
Welcome Oblivion (Hammerstein Ballroom, NYC)
AE3: See You All In Hell (RIMAC Arena)
Dates aren't set in stone yet, but will soon. I'm going to try to also learn some graphic things to make each PPV feel different. Don't quote me on that. I'd love to find a graphics person to help me out, as that's my least favorite thing to do. Or at least get me PSD/PNG cuts.
- I had this idea for Revo. Nick likes it and I'm curious what the other Revo students have to say. Twice in the time between the shows, we'd get a blog from someone on the show in the vein of the blogs they do on chikarapro.com to hype up matches and shows and storylines. I'm curious what RW handlers think of this and if they'd be interested in utilizing this tool to help develop their characters in methods that aren't just on Twitter and segments.
ANYWAYS, I got everything I need to say off my chest. Anyone needs me, contact me.
