What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. One of William Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies had an interesting quote about names. What makes a name so important, so ingrained into our hearts and minds that it defines our character? Certain names are synonymous with certain adjectives. Take for example the name Reed. Around these parts, that name goes hand in hand with being a loudmouth, over the top and somewhat overbearing showman.
Gee, that sounds awfully familiar.
Is that your angle, Cassius? Is it your goal in life to be so over the top and so outrageous that people can’t help but line up around the block in hopes of getting just ONE chance to punch you square in the face? If so then congratulations on reaching your goal. Your mother must be so proud of you. But with those congratulations also comes a warning. You may think you know just who you are facing at Convergence, but the reality is you have no idea. No idea whatsoever. In reality? No one really does.
You see, I didn’t set out to become a wrestler just because it was the passing fad. I didn’t become a wrestler to prove people that I could make something of myself. I didn’t become a wrestler just to prove people wrong when they told me I couldn’t do it. I became a wrestler because I love to compete. I became a wrestler because I enjoy a challenge. I got into this business because deep down, I honestly believe it is my calling. Through a lot of hard work, sacrifice, blood, sweat, and tears, I became the wrestler that graces the wrestling rings here in San Diego today. Now I’m set to leave my mark in this business once again. How you ask? By becoming Pacific Coast champion.
You know something Cassius? I actually have to thank you for something. I have to thank you for what you posted about not being booked at Convergence. Not only was it showing that by not booking one of the top champions in EXODUS they were missing out on something, it also proved to me that it was time to take matters into our own hands. Let’s face it, we can’t always rely on the higher-ups to see to it that we are booked accordingly, now can we? While I had to thank you for initially posting what you did, you also need to thank me for echoing that statement because if no one did, then you wouldn’t be defending your title. You wouldn’t be booked in the most anticipated match outside of the Main Event. You also wouldn’t be booked to face probably your biggest competition since winning the Pacific Coast title. Like it or not, I’m the only competition you need and all the competition that you are going to get.
While I can fully appreciate all of the reasons you think I won’t win, allow me to tell you why YOU won’t win. You see, ever since I stepped foot into the ring for the first time, I have had people tell me that I am good. I’ve had people tell me that I possess a gift few have ever seen. Being the rookie that I was at the time, I brushed it off as if it were nothing. It wasn’t until I left the Calgary area and came down to North Carolina that I started to believe them. I became more and more confident in my abilities and what I was capable of doing. When my time in the GDW system came to an end and I had the chance to come out here to San Diego, it was almost like relearning how to be a better wrestler. Trust me when I say it was for the best. Now I am fully aware of how good I am. You may think you are getting the Ace of rEvolution Wrestling, and rightfully so I might add. But I am so much more than The Ace. Hell, I AM rEvolution Wrestling. It isn’t the current champion. It isn’t the girl pretending to be Queen. It’s me. Look around you, Cassius. Look around rEvolution Wrestling and tell me I’m wrong. Here’s a hint……..I’m one hundred percent right. You are getting the farthest thing from some young rookie looking to make a name for them. You are getting someone who is as good, if not better, than advertised.
For some reason, I am picturing you sitting back in a beanbag chair, with a can of that disgusting drink that you shill, muttering something under your breath about how it isn’t fair that out of everyone, you are left to defend your precious championship against someone from the developmental place who doesn’t exactly have the most sterling of records. Yes, I am woman enough to admit that last part. But you know something? I’m still one of the best damn wresters in rEvolution. While you may think it is somewhat unfair to have to face me, there are FAR worse things happening in this business. Let me tell you what isn’t fair, Cassius. It isn’t fair to be left off of not one but two shows IN A ROW for reasons I am still trying to figure out. It isn’t fair to be forced to sit back and watch as probably the most mismatched team I have ever seen hopes to represent the future against some of the best talent that anyone has ever seen. Do you think Caleb, Ashleigh and Jackie are going to be able to put aside their own egos and do ANYTHING against the Present Team and the Past Team? It is truly something amazing when the only person who makes any sense on that team is Jackie of all people. But hey, what do I know? I just work here. Am I upset about that? I’ll let you figure that one out on your own. You know what else isn’t fair Cassius? It isn’t fair having to watch someone as talented and upstanding as Emily Carter, who happens to be a friend of mine, continue to be treated like she is. She is constantly made out to be the bad person when anyone with half a brain knows that everything that has happened to her is the work of someone else.
My point is that while you may think this match isn’t fair, there are far worse things happening in this business that aren’t fair. No I am not happy about not being in the Main Event. But you know something? We are just going to have to make sure that this match outshines it. We are going to have to put on a clinic for the ages. Are you going to be able to do such a thing Cassius? Are you going to be able to keep up with me? We will soon see, won’t we? After it is all said and done and all the smoke has cleared, one thing will become clear. There will be some changes happening. Let me be the first to really introduce myself, Cassius. My name is Sydney Christensen, and I am the next EXODUS Pro Pacific Coast Champion. That is something that you won’t be able to do a damn thing about. Get used to it.
